Outreach
FAMILY PROMISE
Homelessness is one of the most challenging social issues impacting Hawaii, especially Honolulu. Holy Nativity Church Outreach program belongs to the “Shallow Subsidy” movement. We sponsor one family, per year, and the money we provide, helps families find jobs and accommodation, helps pay the rent, and generally helps support the family for one year while they get back on their feet and out of homelessness. This program has a very high rate of success, and we have been supporting this program since 2017 and hope to continue for as long as is necessary.

SAMARITAN COUNSELING CENTER HAWAII
2019 was the 30th anniversary of this wonderful institution. They describe their mission as a place that provides professional and accessible mental health counseling sensitive to the spiritual traditions of individuals, families and communities in Hawaii. As well as members of the church (including clergy) being on the board, we, as a church community, contribute financially to this organization.

PRISON MINISTRY
We are gifting monies to the prison Reentry Alms Fund to assist with rehabilitation of prisoners back into society. Following this gift, a report will be sent to the church, to be shared with the congregation, with requests for prayers.
FLAG PROJECT
As you may have noticed, we have started a FLAG PROJECT on pedestrian crosswalks near Holy Nativity Church and School, and at various intersections in and around the Kalanianaole Highway. We are aiming to finish this project by the end of February. Our aim is to make the crosswalks safer for the community in general, and to eliminate the number of accidents on crosswalks to zero.
LEMONADE PROJECT
Our gym on the church and school campus, is booked and used to the max for sports of all kinds. The school uses it mostly in the daytime, but we have guests from all over the island using it at night for sports. We plan, and have had one experimental run through, to serve ice cold lemonade to our guests, players and audience, to keep them hydrated and comfortable on our hot sultry nights. We will start at one night a week on alternate nights. We will collect as many volunteers as we can from the congregants and older children and young adults who wish to do community service.
NEW PROJECTS
1. Speakers from the organizations we contribute to financially, (see items 1,2, 3. ) will come to our church service (9 am.) and talk about their organizations to inform everyone of their work all over the islands.
We plan to have this happen in April, May, June and July, and possibly others later in the year.
2. Gifting monies to the non-profit organization”Ho’ola na Puu, which advocates for and provides support to, girls and boys victimized by sex trafficking. They are at present raising funds for a residential treatment center facility in an undisclosed location, similar to the safe houses for the victims of domestic abuse.
